Educational Field Trip Program
Educating our young people about the waste
stream is vital to the future environmental health of our
communities. To that end, Waste Management has partnered
with StopWaste.Org on the irecycle@school Education Center,
located here on our facility. The Education Center reaches
over 6,000 children each year and offers students an opportunity
to learn first-hand how curbside materials are sorted, separated
and packaged at a working material recovery facility and
transfer station. The free field trip program serves Alameda
County public school 4th and 5th grade classrooms and includes:
- A two-hour program including a visit
to the Education Center, Garbage Pit and Material Recovery
Facility.
-
An opportunity to trace the path of yard waste, recyclables
and garbage from curbside to remanufacture or disposal.
-
Learning about the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot) and
exploring how students' individual actions can help reduce
waste.
